This is an experimental work inspired by Christopher Nolan’s Memento, that splits a linear story in two halves and lays one half in reverse over the other. It blends an expressionistic style with horror to explore a darker side to intimate relationships.

A couple loose grip on their relationship and sanity until a little accident leads them to accept the limits of their love.

“Shot” is a graduating project from the Victorian College of the Arts.  In 2007 Tatiana received AFC funding to develop this project for broadband delivery in partnership with  John Pierce.

Shot is a VCA interactive from 2000. It won many awards and is still surprisingly relevant today. Simulating a low-fi website, the exploitative use of motion picture recording devises is juxtaposed with the intimate, baiting advertising practices of the Internet. It won the RIHL Poitiers International films schools festival New Media award France 2001 and was exhibited at St Kilda film festival 2001, and Transmediale in Berlin 2002 along side the Berlinale, WOW Sydney 2002, and the Biennial of Video and New Media in Santiago de Chile 2003.

Synopsis

Donna, is a woman brought to her knees by a drug habit, working as a street worker to feed her addiction. She is forced one night to perform for a camera in exchange for her daily bread. The next day she faces herself.

Simulating a website, the exploitative use of motion picture recording devises is juxtaposed with the intimate, baiting advertising practices of the Internet. “Shot” explores the modern preoccupation with seeing the ‘unseeable’.
The interactive brings the story of Donna to the surface, forcing the audience to look at the uncomfortable and the banal stories, hidden by dominant discourses on sex and commerce.

Screenings

Shot won the RIHL Poitiers International films schools festival New Media award France 2001 and was exhibited at St Kilda film festival 2001, and Transmediale in Berlin 2002 along side the Berlinale, WOW Sydney 2002, and the Biennial of Video and New Media in Santiago de Chile 2003.

This film is created as close as possible to the rules of the DOGMA Manifesto 1995.  The experiment in this short film was to create the illusion, as far as possible, that every shot was taken from a camera that exists in the world of the characters.

Short SYNOPSIS

Rae, a self confessed mysandrist and scopophiliac, battles her demons by making herself the centrepiece of a self-devised experiment in voyeurism. Until one day, a meeting with a stranger compels the conclusion of her experiment: a fragile equation between confession, exposure and trust.

Long SYNOPSIS

Rae, a self confessed mysandrist and scopophiliac, battles the demons in her mind by making herself the centrepiece of a self-devised experiment in voyeurism. Using the virtual reality of personal webcams, and a reverse gender ‘peeping tom’ website, she maps the diary of her psyche and exorcises her obsession with video and mysandry, by cam- recording men from windows and stairwells in the night, to then offer up the footage to online voyeurs.
One day she dares to target a middle aged man whose appearance begins to trigger visceral memories of her dark secret that compels Rae to the conclusion of her experiment; a fragile equation between confession, exposure and trust.

NOTE on translation for international festivals – The term “jailbait” is slang, refering to “sexually attractive” (usually) female persons whom are under the age of consent for sexual activity.
